Micropore receives ISO 9001:2015

Micropore signs partnership agreement with TPG

Micropore has signed an agreement with UK based TP Group (TPG). TPG, a global leader in submarine and subsea life support, will act as Micropore's preferred equipment manufacturing partner. Capitalizing on Micropore's ExtendAir technology, TPG will develop and market the next generation of ExtendAir and PowerCube equipped life support systems. TPG is currently a major OEM life support system integrator for nuclear and non-nuclear submarines, and other closed environmental systems. Click for more information.

JFD presents joint paper on ExtendAir for saturation diving

JFD will be presenting a paper at Underwater Intervention with Micropore Inc. on the ExendAir, solid sheet absorbent for diving support. JFD has partnered with Mircopore Inc. to improve their products for future diving operations as part of their innovation program.

MSHA approves new mine safety curtains

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has issued component certification for two Micropore ExtendAir® products. OM-0608K, widely used in mine refuge chambers since 2006, and a new product, OM-1203K, designed for “low coal”, where chambers can be as little as 24” tall. Similar to the ExtendAir® curtains currently used on most of the NATO countries’ submarines, and all of the new US Virginia-class submarines, the curtains “passively remove poisonous carbon dioxide gas without the need for blower systems or artificial circulation. ExtendAir® curtains are the most efficient passive CO2 absorbents available. ExtendAir® eliminates the need for additional hardware, as well as the risk of mechanical failure of blower systems.

US Navy outfits subs

The US Navy has completed acquisition of ExtendAir® Lithium Curtains for emergency life support onboard all existing Virginia class submarines. The conversion to ExtendAir® provides the navy with a safe, easy to use CO2 adsorbent while significantly reducing the storage footprint.

Turkish Navy takes delivery of ExtendAir Lithium Hydroxide Curtains

Turkey has just completed the acquisition of Micropore's ExtendAir Lithium Hydroxide Curtains for life support onboard their submarines. Micropore's international marketing partners Gentas (Germany) and Atlas (Turkey) assisted in the tender process. Gentas CEO Wigbert Krone accompanied Turkish naval officers on a tour of Micropore's Newark Delaware facility and the inspection of their shipment in early February. Divex Launches New Shadow Enforcer

Divex, one of the world's leading manufacturers of underwater equipment, has launched the newest variant of their popular Shadow special forces rebreather. The new Shadow Enforcer is a compact, lightweight rebreather for special operations and maritime law enforcement. Phase 2 clinical trials begin for medical anesthesia

Another milestone was reached for Micropore’s CO2 absorbents as DUKE researchers began human testing. The subjects, all healthy volunteers, were placed under anesthesia using GE Aestiva anesthesia machines fitted with Micropore’s Lithium CO2 absorbers. The studies are being performed by attending anesthesiologists at the DUKE University Medical Center North Operation Room Complex. Phase 2 comes after years of product development in house at Micropore. The new Lithium absorbents are expected to be on the market later this year.

Duke researchers present findings

Doctors from Duke University Medical Center presented 4 papers this week at the American Society of Anesthesiology Conference in San Diego. The abstracts, a series of comparative studies between existing granular CO2 absorbent technology, and Micropore's new ExtendAir® Lithium for medical anesthesia, were well received. The studies show that ExtendAir® Lithium compares favorably to granular products in all areas studied. Copies of the DUKE ABSTRACTS are in the Medical section of the website.

Micropore unveils ExtendAir® Lithium for Anesthesia

The medical industry got its first look at ExtendAir® Lithium this week in San Diego during the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) conference. The annual meeting, which draws an estimated 10,000 anesthesia professionals and an additional 6,000 industry representatives, is one of the largest in the world. ExtendAir® Lithium was extremely well received because it directly addresses the major shortcomings of existing granular absorbents which include, safety, cost, consistent absorption of CO2, and reduction of hospital waste through Micropore's integrated recycling program.

Building on Micropore's ISO 9001-2000 certification, the company has now be awarded ISO's new 9001- 2008 certification. To receive this certification, ISO, the International Standards Organization, requires companies use the most stringent quality control standards, designed to insure customers receive the same high quality product, every time, with excellent customer service and on time deliveries.

HDW offers ExtendAir® as OEM equipment on new submarines

German submarine manufacturer HDW has now started offering Micropore’s ExtendAir® curtains as a standard option for emergency life support on all new submarines. HDW of Kiel Germany is a major manufacturer of submarines, supplying the German Navy as well at 16 other countries.

Micropore Launches PowerCube

International Navies got their first look at Micropore’s new PowerCube™ today at the SAMAP conference in San Diego. The PowerCube™ is a CO2 removal system targeted at the world’s non-nuclear submarines. Non-nuclear (typically Diesel-Electric) submarines rely solely on battery power while submerged. During this time they utilize chemical CO2 scrubbers to purify the air. The PowerCube™ replaces granular CO2 absorbents with Micropore’s ExtendAir® solid absorbent cartridges. The resulting technology removes significantly more CO2, at a higher removal rate, while requiring substantially less stowage space.

Micropore purchases 95,000 s.f. Upper Chesapeake facility

As part of Micropore’s overall expansion plans, we are pleased to announce the acquisition of our new manufacturing facility. Located in Elkton, MD. The 95,000 s.f. property will house manufacturing, r&d facilities, as well as the company’s corporate headquarters. For the time being Micropore will continue to operate its Newark, DE facility.

The Defense Material Organization of the Netherlands awarded Micropore Incorporated a contract for the supply of an emergency CO2 removal system for use in distressed submarines (DISSUB). The system will provide CO2 removal capability for about 7 days for the Walrus-class submarines.

MSHA releases PIB P07-03

The Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) has released its new regulations aimed at improving safety and emergency response capabilities in the wake of the Sago mine disaster in January 2006. One of the primary goals of the legislation is to provide all U.S. coal miners with shelters that will allow them to have breathable air for up to 96 hours. Micropore is working with many of the shelter manufactures to bring state of the art capabilities to North American miners. ExtendAir® curtains for mine refuge chambers offer the most effective means of CO2 removal without the need for electricity. With a shelf life of up to 10 years, ExtendAir® products are offered on most of the shelters available for the U.S. market today.

Victoria-class submarines emergency CO2 removal

The Public Works and Government Services Canada awarded Micropore Incorporated a contract for the supply of an emergency CO2 removal system for use in distressed submarines (DISSUB). The system will provide CO2 removal capability for about 7 days for the Victoria-class submarines. ExtendAir® submarine technology has been transitioned into a mine safety product for use in mining emergencies. Lithium Hydroxide curtains can now be used to control CO2 in mine safety shelters that have been required by the State of West Virginia and are being tested by MSHA and NIOSH. Micropore receives DoD grant

As part of the Department of Defense, Domestic Production Act, Micropore was awarded a Title III grant to increase capacity and further develop high tech CO2 absorbent solutions for military, homeland security, and industrial applications. Spearheaded by Senator Biden’s office, with support by Senator Tom Carper and Congressman Mike Castle, ExtendAir is seen as Critical technology for America’s soldiers and first responders.

British Royal Navy emergency CO2 removal (DISSUB)

The British Royal Navy awarded Micropore Incorporated a contract for the supply and in-service support of an emergency CO2 removal system for use in distressed submarines (DISSUB). The system will operate independently of submarine services and will provide CO2 removal capability for about 7 days for the full complement of a SSN/SSBN.
